ChatGPT vs Google Bard: The ULTIMATE AI Prompt Test

Google Bard Vs. ChatGPT, are these AI Chatbots really that different? We put the 2 head-to-head via a series of prompt tests ranging from really simple, to really complicated tasks to see which AI tool is best for certain situations. And spoiler alert, they are NOT the same.
ChatGPT and Google Bard are two of the most widely-used conversational AI tools used today.
ChatGPT is a pre-trained deep learning model developed by OpenAI. It's great for things like generating human-like replies, converting text from one language to another, and summarizing conversations.
Google Bard, on the other hand, is a dialogue engine built over a domain-specific language model, powered by Google’s advanced machine-learning algorithms. And you can even enable Bard with Google Workspace!
And if that tech talk is a little too much, just know that both do very similar things which is create responses based on the questions and commands you give them, but they use different methods for creating those responses.

What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a conversational AI Tool developed by OpenAI. It's rise in popularity comes from it's human-like text responses that it creates from the text it's been trained on. This includes a variety of text from the internet, books, articles, and other sources. AI uses the data to make its own response instead of just copy/pasting, so your AI responses are NOT plagiarized. .
Here are some key features of ChatGPT:
Natural Language Understanding
ChatGPT is trained to understand and generate text in a way that is coherent and contextually relevant, making it capable of engaging in natural conversations with users.
Versatility
The model can be used for various tasks, including answering questions, providing explanations, generating text, charts, and even making AI images.
Limitations
It doesn't have real-time access to current information or events as it has a knowledge cutoff date.
It can sometimes generate incorrect or nonsensical answers.
It doesn't have personal experiences or emotions, it just tells you what it thinks will answer your questions based on a "best guess".
What is Google Bard?
Google Bard is an experimental, conversational AI chatbot developed by Google to rival ChatGPT.
But instead of being trained on the same data set as ChatGPT, it was trained on a data set known as PaLM 2 (Pathways Language Model 2). Bard can generate text, translate languages, write different kinds of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative way.
It is still under development, but I mean the same can be said about AI tools in general.
Some key Google Bard Features:
Synchronization with other Google products
Bard can be integrated with other Google products, such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides. This allows you to use Bard to create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
Image and video analysis
Bard can analyze images and videos to identify objects, people, and scenes. It can also translate text in images and videos. Just give Bard a URL and ask a question!
Up To Date Info
Unlike ChatGPT, Bard info is updated with Google search results, so it is trained on recent information and its data set will continue to grow. This is a major advantage for Bard as GPT models only use data up to September 2021.

We tested ChatGPT and Google Bard on 3 Categories: Simple Questions, Detailed Prompts, and Current Events. Here are the results!
Simple Questions
Prompt: "Please give me 10 types of online side hustle ideas”
Both platforms gave me the list I asked for, but only Bard included platforms I could actually use to get started. And I felt more confident in the results knowing it was using more up-to-date information.

Complex Questions
Prompt: "
Act as a business consultant. Let's start by brainstorming viable online business ideas that align with your interests, skills, and experience, and that have the potential to grow into a successful venture. Once we identify potential business ideas, let's narrow them down based on factors such as market demand, competition, and profitability.
After selecting a business idea, we will focus on establishing your brand identity, including a name, logo, tagline, and branding materials. We will then work on setting up a website and social media accounts that promote your brand and services.
Once the initial setup is complete, we can begin promoting your business through targeted marketing campaigns, reaching out to potential clients, and building relationships with your target audience. We can explore various platforms to leverage and develop a comprehensive marketing strategy".
Both AIs accomplished the task at hand and they did a great job at holding the conversation (results found in images below).

Current Events
Prompt: "Who owns Twitter?”
This is a pretty simple question that most of us know the answer to. If not, congrats on living your life off the grid.
ChatGPT reminded me that it only has knowledge up to September 2021 and then told me it was a publicly traded company run by CEO Jack Dorsey. Moments like this help me feel comfortable taking on an AI :).
But when I asked Bard, it correctly identified Elon Musk as the owner while also giving details about the Twitter Sale.
So if you want to use AI to help write about current events, probably best to go with Google Bard!

Alright, after putting these tools head to head, I feel like I’d have to give the most credit to Bard. Even though the quality of responses for both AIs is pretty good, having up-to-date information is a must, and Bard is the only AI I’d trust for current information. Bard has features that will be integrated into Google workspace so I can use AI in way more places compared to ChatGPT where I need to login to OpenAI's platform.
